Numerical Investigation on the Cage-to-Cage Wake Effect: A Case Study of a 4 × 2 Cage Array

Abstract Aquaculture has been the world’s fastest-growing food producing method and grown to become second-largest export industry in Norway during past 40 years. Usually, high-value fish such as Atlantic Salmon (Salmo Salar) is raised a multi-cage farm, where flow interactions between cages exist. In this study, are implemented into numerical program, FhSim, investigate its influences on responses of farm. Tensions anchor lines, drag force, cultivation volume each cage full-scale 4 × 2 farms under different directions analyzed numerically. The discrepancies based three cases, i.e., (i) without any wake effects, (ii) with only cage-to-cage effect, (iii) all compared discussed. results indicate that neglecting effects will overestimate total force eight up 128% underestimate much 42%. This study can provide suggestions how consider design multiple-cage system.
